From Bobby Tewksbary, cofounder of AB and Director of Baseball Development:
Since we started AB in 2008, we have been approached to run teams many, many times. We have always stayed away from teams because we have been disappointed in the state of “travel ball” for some time. When Austin and I were 13 and 14, there were two AAU teams in NH. Now it seems like there are two AAU teams in every town. AAU baseball used to represent a higher level of baseball, but we feel that is no longer the case.
The focus of our teams will be player development. Period. We are not asking players to be 100% specialized in baseball, but we do want to train players year-round. The reason for this is that skill development is cumulative. We want the players to get continuously better.
We want to build good throwing mechanics, keep track of how much kids are throwing and instill proper throwing habits. With hitting, we want to give kids mechanics, develop a solid mental approach and gain experience that will carry them through high school and into college baseball. We want to teach the little things, the footwork, the hustling on and off the field, the treating the umpire with respect type things.
Teams will form to begin training in the fall of 2011. If you are interested in joining our program, please fill out the form below to tell us a little about yourself.
