After falling behind 4-1 through the first four innings, the visiting Team AB scored three runs in the fifth on a walk and three hits to tie the game. Third baseman David Webster (Alvirne) hit a key two-run double in the rally. With the score tied, pitchers James Machado (Dracut) and Matt Morais (Bishop Guertin) shut down the Salem offense by recording strike outs for six of the final nine outs.
Team AB scored the winning run in the top of the seventh on some good base running by Webster. After reaching on an error, he moved to third on a single by Donald Maffee (Nashua South). The next batter hit a ground ball to third and Webster took off for the plate after the fielder threw to second base to attempt a double play. The second baseman tried to cut him down at the plate, but he beat the throw to give Team AB the lead.
Morais finished with the win on the mound pitching the final two innings. Addison Hanscom (Nashua North) had two of AB’s six hits.
AB Drops Game Two 6-2
Despite out-hitting Salem 5-2, Team AB was hurt by striking out 8 times at the plate and issuing 10 walks to Salem hitters in game two of their doubleheader. Offensively, Ryan Gendron (Nashua South) and Donald Maffee (Nashua South) both hit long doubles for AB.
Salem (playing as the visitor) jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead after two innings, then opened up a 5-1 lead in the fourth when AB made two errors and walked three. Both teams added late runs to make the final score 6-2. Of the six runs that Salem scored, four of the hitters reached on a walk, one reached on an error and only one reached on a hit.
Team AB returns to action next Sunday at Bedford.
