Program: 2009 Fall Arm Strength Program
This player won the award for biggest velocity improvement. He improved his velocity from 73 mph to 83 mph. Just as importantly, he improved his average velocity 8.4 miles per hour. As a catcher, every 5 mph gain in velocity equals 0.10 seconds off your throw to second base. For this player, his pop time improved as much as 0.20 seconds, with an average improvement of 0.168 seconds if his throwing mechanics allow this gain to translate. He has gone from an average high school catcher (in terms of arm strength/throwing) to a serious college prospect – and he is only a sophomore!

1. What do you like most about this program?
It was a fun time to come after school and play with new guys from different schools.
2. What were your perceptions before we started?
I thought it was going to be different exercises for the are the whole practice. I really didn’t think I would see great results.
3. How have your perceptions changed?
I had great results in my velocity and learned a lot about how stretching properly and using my legs help with throwing.
4. What are the three biggest benefits of the program?
1. I improved my throwing velocity by 10 mph.
2. I learned how to properly stretch out my arm.
3. I learned about my shoulder and different exercises I can do to strengthen it.
